My Many Sisters

My Many Sisters
It is my great fortune to have been born into a family with three sisters.

Our mother was a great role model and taught us the importance of family

and learning to love and care for each other. These include common goals,

interests and trust. My two daughters share the sisterly love we all have

for each other. We try to follow Paul’s admonition found in Romans 12:9-10.

“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil: cling to what is good. Be de-

voted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above your-

selves.” [NIV]

Physical family is a great thing and is God’s “training ground” for life.

No less important to us should our Christian sisters be. Because we lived

in many different places I have been helped by many Christian sisters.

Among the memories I have is one from an older Christian sister who

encouraged me to remain faithful in worship attendance. I was discouraged

after another wrestling match with three small children during worship

service when she assured me the Lord understood and was pleased with my

efforts. Galatians 6:9-10 says “Let us not become weary in doing good,

for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. There-

fore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to

those who belong to the family of believers.” [NIV]

Who can you encourage today?
Which sister can you encourage?
