Waiting on God… Hurry Up Already!
A common expression in military life is “hurry up and wait”. Whether waiting for deployment orders, leave dates, redeployment (home coming from deployment), school or promotion applications, our lives are a constant waiting game.
Becoming a wife and mom is something I waited (sometimes not so patiently) to be for a long time. Now that I have those very full roles in my life, I still do a lot of waiting… waiting on my husband to get home, waiting on my child to finally conk out at bedtime, waiting on payday to provide for my family’s needs.
However, all of this waiting is nothing compared to what our Father does for us. He delays for our benefit, that all might be saved. I can remember circumstances in which I prayed fervently for Jesus to return immediately. In recent years, I have amended that prayer, that He tarry until my family and friends that have lost their way return to faith in Him.
All that being said, I am still learning patience. Some days, as with anything, I am more successful than others. Other days, the frustrations of life leave me exhausted and hopeless. Still, I wait. I wait for the return of my earthly husband, as well as my Heavenly Groom.
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2Peter 3:9
Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him! Isaiah 30:18
‘As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Ezekiel 33:11
