Life – A Time for Everything

2010 December 14

As you may have read in my other articles, I am the mother of two young toddler boys.  I spend most of my days working from the moment I get up until the moment I crawl back into bed, which is why I was caught off guard, last week, when someone told me that I had an easy life.

A friend of mine has been having a rough time lately.  At the moment, her life seems to her, to be nothing but an ever-growing pile of disappointments.  I was trying my best to cheer her up and let her know that I understand.  After all, I’ve been through my share of hard times.  I’ve been broke, unemployed, lonely, and heartbroken too.  So I pour out my heart and what does she say?  Give me a break, you have an easy life.

Now I will be the first to admit that I have a blessed life.  I have two beautiful children and a wonderful husband, but my life still has its challenges.  After our conversation I started thinking about the different seasons of our lives.  It reminded me of Ecclesiastes 3:1-8.  In an attempt to make myself and my friend feel better I have come up with my own version of this passage.

A Time for Everything
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die, a time to learn and a time to teach,
a time to work and a time to rest, a time to fail and a time to have success,
a time to cry and a time to laugh, a time to be disappointed and a time to celebrate,
a time to be sick and a time to be healthy, a time to search and a time to give up,                                   a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to listen and a time to speak,
a time to wipe noses and bottoms and a time when they do it themselves,
a time to be alone and a time to be in love, a time for chaos and a time for peace.

I’d like to encourage you to read the real passage for yourself and to remember that there is a season for all things.  Good times don’t last forever but neither do the bad times.  The best we can do is to hold on to the good times and remember that God always loves us and will never forsake us.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NIV)
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
